Basic Role Summary:

Lead the sales and business development activities within the assigned territory, working closely with the Senior Business Development Manager, EU Market Leader, and Business Unit Director to deliver revenue growth, increase market share, and secure strategic business opportunities. This role is responsible for developing innovative commercial strategies, building strong industry partnerships, and driving portfolio growth through a deep understanding of customer needs, regulatory pathways, intellectual property considerations, and market dynamics.

In this role, you will report into the Senior Business Development Manager and EU Market Leader.


Location: Onsite at our Porto Office


As our Business Development Manager, your key responsibilities will be as follows:

  • Build and maintain relationships with industry leaders, generic partners, innovative OTC companies, and agents to negotiate and secure licensing and supply agreements.

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities through ongoing market analysis and collaboration with strategic partners.

  • Align commercial strategies with the future product pipeline and prepare business cases for new product opportunities that address customer and market needs.

  • Conduct detailed analyses to identify products for development, including generic and innovative products, and lead feasibility assessments with internal stakeholders where required.

  • Maintain close relationships with customers, obtaining feedback and proactively addressing issues to strengthen long-term partnerships.

  • Prepare and communicate business plans to management and key stakeholders.

  • Influence internal and external stakeholders to support strategic business objectives.

  • Support and mentor junior team members where applicable.

  • Keep Head Office informed of business development opportunities, negotiations, approvals, and key market developments.

  • Collaborate with Regulatory, R&D, Intellectual Property, Procurement, Supply Chain, Marketing, and Commercial teams to support successful product development and commercialisation activities.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree in a pharmaceutical-related discipline such as Pharmacy, Chemistry, Medicine, or a related field.

  • Additional qualification in Management, Sales, or Business desirable.

  • At least 5 years’ experience within the pharmaceutical industry, including a minimum of 3 years in a business development role within an international and multidisciplinary environment.

  • Proven track record of successfully negotiating and closing commercial licensing and supply agreements.

  • Experience in portfolio management and R&D pipeline selection.

  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical industry functions including regulatory affairs, intellectual property, procurement, and supply chain.

  • Advanced English language skills; additional language capabilities are advantageous.

  • Strong computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office, including Excel.
